Diploma in Foundation Studies for Higher Education (1-year Full-time / 2-year Part-time)


Tuition fees (2023/24 intake)

  • HK$32,000 per Year (1 Year Full Time) (By 2 instalments)
  • HK$16,000 per Year (2 Year Part Time) (By 2 instalments)

Basic Admission Requirements

HKDSE Qualification
  • Completed Secondary 6 (under the new Senior Secondary Academic Structure);OR
Other Qualification
  • Obtained passes in at least 5 subjects including English Language and Chinese Language in HKCEE;OR
  • Completed a level 2 programme, e.g. Old Yi Jin Programme;OR
  • Aged 21 *or above;OR
  • Obtained equivalent academic qualifications

*Individual applicants may need to complete the language entrance examination.


In addition to meeting any of the above admission requirements, all applicants are also required to pass an admission interview.

Diploma in Foundation Studies for Higher Education – Teaching Team

Study choices besides traditional vocational training programmes and the Diploma Yi Jin.

This comprehensive programme is suitable for students with any results in HKDSE. It does not only lay a solid foundation for students in general skills (80% of the course), but also include specialized knowledge (20%). It provides a choice of 4 major areas for students. Upon completion of the programme, students will have acquired a good foundation and whether they continue to pursue two-year associate degree or higher diploma programmes, or go out for employment, they will have certain advantages.

Programme Characteristics

The programme includes general courses such as Chinese language, English language, Mathematics, Information Technology, Life Skills, and Interpersonal skills. The programme also gives students the chance to choose a specialist stream of study from the list below:
  1. Chinese Language, Literature and Culture
  2. Business
  3. Social Services
  4. Caring

Further Study Prospects for Diploma Graduates

Graduates can progress academically by enrolling in the College’s Higher Diploma in Health Management in an Ageing Society programme or other higher diploma/associate degree programmes offered by different tertiary institutions. Students who complete the first year of the College’s higher diploma programme with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above are eligible to apply for admission to the College’s Bachelor of Social Work (Hons) programme.
